Berets are back. To be honest I’m not sure they ever went anywhere, especially if you’re French, but they’re the hottest, unexpected accessory of the season. Classic and iconic with a history embedded in artistic culture and revolution, the beret is now a style rather than satirical statement, and you can’t scroll through Instagram without spotting one on your favourite bloggers.
An inexpensive way of following one of the latest trends for AW17, you can chose from a wide range of colours and textures including felt, fluffy and leather or add a touch of sparkle with pearl and sequin embellishments.
To ease myself into the beret trend, I opted for a simple grey wool one from ASOS and they have more styles here. Berets are everywhere at the moment so you don’t have far to look online or on the high street.
I’m not entirely sure what the correct way to wear a beret is and even after some online research, I’m none the wiser. There are forums galore discussing whether to wear them on the back of your head, jauntily to one side or covering the whole head… I went for the latter option as mine is quite stiff in structure but a softer one might be more suited to being worn like a beanie.
Whichever way you’re supposed to wear them, they add a sophisticated finishing touch to any outfit and whether you consider yourself a hat person or not, there’s a style to suit everyone.
I haven’t quite mastered Parisian chic quite yet but I managed to avoid looking like a mime artist, which is something! Let me know in the comments below if you’re on board with the beret trend this season or would rather reach for your trusty beanie or bobble hat.
P.S I’m currently living in this pearl-embellished pastel blue jumper from M&S, which you can find here.
